RPG Cables, a part of the Rs 6,400 crore RPG Enterprise Group, is a leading
manufacturer of JFTC and OFC cables in India. RPG cables was formed as a result
of the merger of Asian Cables and Industries, RPG Telecom, Upcom Cables and RPG
Cables. The company has a market share in both JFTC and OFC and is the only
manufacturer that provides integrated cable solutions for clients. Its clients
include DoT, MTNL, Railways, SEB, power industry and refineries. Some of the
private customers include Asianet, Sun TV and the Zee Group. During the FY
2000-01, the company has posted a turnover of Rs 248.63 crore from the sales of
telecom cables.
The company has two manufacturing plants at Mysore and Raebarelli with a
production capacity of 70 lckm of JFTC. RPG cables have recently announced its
plans to strengthen its optical fiber cable business. This would include the
expansion of the Mysore plant, upgradation of the Silvassa plant and
commissioning of a balancing facility. The company plans to do OFC business
worth Rs 100 core from the present Rs 35 crore, by increasing the production
capacity of its Mysore plant from 1.8 lakh to 4.3 lakh fiber km. It has also
shown remarkable growth in its contracting business of laying OFCs. It has
recently executed two major projects in this area— Reliance in Jamnagar and
Spice Telecom in Bangalore. Another major order was from Tata Teleservices in
Andhra Pradesh.
