SWOT

STRENGTH
  • A strong technology company focused on newer technologies

WEAKNESS

  • Needs to be market-savvy

OPPORTUNITY

  • Next generation wireless and broadband markets

THREAT

  • Indian software companies

The year meant transformation for the company. First, from Silicon Automation Systems (SAS) to Sasken Communication Technologies, i.e. a new brand identity was adopted. With a strong focus on the telecom market, it restructured with the formation of four key divisions—broadband access technologies, Internet access, mobile software, and services. This focus enabled the company to consolidate its competencies and it grew by 86 percent netting a turnover of Rs 141.3 crore.

The key to its success has been its hybrid business model consisting of products and services. While products brought it Rs 66.3 crore accounting for 47 percent of the revenue share, the rest Rs 75 crore came from the services. It has made consistent investment in R&D, which is fuelling its growth.

For the company, 16 percent of its total revenue came from its broadband access division—primarily G.lite ADSL technology. Further, it made significant inroads into the 3G wireless communication area. Through development of complete wireless protocol stack solutions for GPRS, UMTS and multi-mode, it was successful in tying up with some of the leading players in wireless data communications, test equipment, etc. As a result, the mobile software division accounted for 30 percent of the market share.
