SWOT

STRENGTH
  • Alliances with global majors

WEAKNESS

  • Low-end player

OPPORTUNITY

  • VoIP and wireless

THREAT

  • IP PBXs and communication servers

Enkay Telecom has registered a turnover of Rs 105 crore in the FY 2000-01 as compared to Rs 95 crore in the FY 1999-00, showing a modest growth rate of 21 percent. The company’s growth was curtailed mainly due to the plummeting prices per port and the drying up of orders from the call center industry.

Enkay claims to hold around 30 percent market share in the KTS market, out of a total market size of 3.3 lakh ports in the last fiscal. However, there was a sharp decline in the number of KTS units sold largely because a lot of users preferred PBX systems.

During the last fiscal, the company had tied up with VocalTec of Israel for VoIP solutions. This is in addition to the alliance it already has with PictureTel for video conferencing equipment and Nitsuko of Japan for ISDN digital key telephone systems. It is also into commissioning and maintenance of large radio and communication networks in rural and urban areas. The company is marketing two-way radio equipment through its alliance with Motorola. Enkay has recently forayed into networking by offering ready-made networking service in voice, data, facsimile, text and image. The company has identified VoIP, networking solutions, wireless and voice messaging solutions as its growth engines for the current year in its quest to position itself as an integrated communications solutions provider.
