SWOT

STRENGTH: Wide geographical-spread and reach with twenty-two locations
WEAKNESS: Depleting margins
OPPORTUNITY: Integrators and value-added resellers
THREAT: Growing networking activity in SME segment

This Indian subsidiary, of the world’s largest wholesaler of technology, made a remarkable presence in the country in the networking products arena. Recording a 189 percent growth, the companies business from the networking products stood at Rs 90 crore. This is remarkable considering the fact that the company started distributing networking products just two years back. Ingram, today, is the second largest pure-play distributor of networking products.

Its objective of being in the forefront to help resellers and manufacturers meet their customers’ demands has found more principals vying to tie-up with it. And its efforts to become an end-to-end provider of networking solutions to channels helped Ingram to strengthen its hold. In the process, it also claims to have become the No.1 distributor to Cisco, 3Com and Intel, with sales revenue of Rs 25 crore, Rs 10 crore and Rs 11 crore, respectively. Its global image and wide geographical-spread and reach with twenty-two locations all over the country, helped it to rake up such good revenue in a short span.

The second strategy that turned its fortunes was adding up of new product lines and principals along with aggressive marketing promos and schemes for resellers. It added on MRO-Tek for ASM/RAD leased line modems, Linksys for SME market portfolio to the already existing partnerships with 3Com, Cisco, Intel, Avaya and Nortel.
