Surana Telecom, part of the Hyderabad-based Surana Group, is a focused player
in the Jelly Filled Telephone Cable (JFTC) and Optic Fiber Cable (OFC) segment.
As a result of this focused approach, the company has been growing consistently.
The fiscal 2000-01, saw its annual revenue soaring to Rs 86.29 crore from Rs
68.68 crore in the previous year. Like in
the previous years, the cash cow for the company has been the JFTC division, out
of the six divisions in its fold—magnet wires, heat shrinkable cable jointing
kits, OFCs, JFTC, optical fiber test instruments and line equipment, and cable
filling compounds. Supplying about 7.0891-lckm of JFTC, its JFTC business was
worth Rs 55.68 crore. One of the main reasons for this group to succeed is its
manufacturing capacity and R&D. It was one of the first to indigenize the
heat shrinkable cable jointing kits in the telecom field for example.
The company increased its installed capacity for JFTC to 10-lckm, and further
an expansion to 12.5-lckm was underway. The company, during the FY 2000-01, did
supply 2,046-rkm of OFC worth Rs 9.41 crore. Further, it has also undertaken
manufacture of test and measuring instrument of fiber optic network equipment in
co-operation from Anritsu Corporation, Japan. This year for Surana could be a
better one considering that there would be huge fiber laid out for the broadband
networks.
