SWOT |
STRENGTH: Strong product portfolio for converged networks
WEAKNESS: A niche player
OPPORTUNITY: Optical backbone infrastructure, corporate-class ISP services
THREAT: Too much dependence on major projects that keep getting delayed |
For this company focused on providing infrastructure for converged networks
of voice, data, and video, the passing fiscal was an eventful one. It recorded a
total sale revenue of Rs 85.18 crore and was clearly the leader in the WAN
switches segment. With a total sales of Rs 63.52 crore from its multi-service
switches, it commanded 33 percent share of the entire WAN switch market. And the
rest came from the sale of multiplexers and DSL modems.
Tellabs is, today, single-handedly responsible for the growth of the Managed
Data Networks (MDN) in the country. It won major orders from BSNL, VSNL, and Sri
Lanka Telecom. The largest order for the company during the year has been the
BSNL MDN order that was worth Rs 38 crore. It also received another MDN order
worth Rs 14 crore from VSNL, while it opened its account in the overseas market
with a Rs 10 crore order from Sri Lanka Telecom.
The success factor is because of its focus on managed and integrated wireline
access network solutions on DLC and HFC platforms; managed digital transport
network supporting PDH/SDH; managed data network solutions; multi- service
platform solutions for ISPs, and transmission service enhancement systems. This
fiscal could be another landmark year for Tellabs as it is looking at providing
optical transport networks for alternate carriers and NLD operators, and at the
broadband ISPs.
