SWOT |
STRENGTH: Strong enterprise integration skills
WEAKNESS: Seen as an integrator of its principal partners’ products
OPPORTUNITY: Large enterprises, which are looking for end-to-end solutions, inclusive of business application
THREAT: Of being branded by Nortel, Tyco, etc, as the only partners |
Ramco Systems, a Chennai-based networking major, was successful both as an
integrator and a distributor. During the FY 2000-01, it netted a turnover of Rs
75 crore, with its integration revenue of Rs 40.18 crore and distribution
revenue of Rs 34.82 crore. Also in the process, it has become the largest
distributor for Nortel and Tyco in the country. It did Rs 7.10 crore of sales
through 3Com switches and hubs, Rs 11.95 crore for Nortel and Rs 10.95 crore of
sales from Tyco’s structured cabling solutions, among others. The success of
Ramco is due to its decision to be a focused player in the area of network
infrastructure, implementation, management and security.
The success is clearly reflected in the way it has bagged some key orders
like BSE, BGSE, Saraswat Bank, Air Frieght, TIFR, NIC and NSE. In fact through
integration revenue, the company clearly dominated in banking and finance, and
government sectors. The two accounted for more than 70 percent of its
integration revenue. This justifies its claim to be an expert in the
mission-critical environment. Ramco is on the right path to handle further
complex projects, for which it is building up the necessity capabilities. And
its expert relationship management with principals like Internet Security
Systems, Check Point, Trend Micro, 3Com, Nortel and Tyco, will help it to grow
further, as these players have emerged as leaders in various key market segments
here.
