SWOT

STRENGTH: Independent communication software company
WEAKNESS: Working in a market which is volatile as well as explosive
OPPORTUNITY: In the wireless Internet area and optical networking
THREAT: Increasingly more and more Indian software companies looking towards telecom

Future Software is one of the very few software companies like Axes and Sasken, which have bet their fortune exclusively in the field of communications software. And the company has been consistently growing in revenue focusing on the core areas of datacom, telecom, ATM, frame relay, ISDN and internetworking. In FY 2000-01, Future Software grew to Rs 76.55 crore in business from the previous year’s Rs 47.96 crore. The company is focused on both products and services. The modus operandi for the services is execution of projects on a fixed-price-turnkey basis and on a time-and-material basis. In products, Future Software develops, markets, licenses and supports a wide range of protocol source code products to OEMs, to enable them to bring their products to market quickly.

The success story of this company is its human resource. It has about 500 plus engineers with extensive experience in software engineering and project management and has built core competencies in a broad spectrum of telecom and networking fields. The company got SEI-CMM Level 5 assessment and came up with an IPO in October. The funds from IPO would be used to build state-of-the-art software development facilities, further expansion of setting up a state-of-the-art integration and testing laboratory, and opening up four additional sales offices in the US, one in Europe and one in the Asia-Pacific region.
