NEW DELHI: Telecom firm Uninor, which operates in six circles in the country, has said that 50% of its users would be internet enabled by December 2017.
"With our initiative, internet for all, we are targeting 50% of our users to be on internet platform by 2017," said Vivek Sood, CEO, Telewings Communications Services (Uninor) while launching Digital Winners Contest here.
Of late, Uninor completed five years of operations in India with its total subscribers base at over 47 million today. Though the company is taking nano steps to make it big in the Indian telecom landscape, it didn’t buy any spectrum in the auctions held in the month of March.
Its average spectrum holding in India is among the lowest in the world but the company claims that this has fostered innovation to squeeze out more from the network. Uninor has also invested on its network infrastructure to derive more efficiency within the allocated spectrum.
The company's "Internet for All” is aligned with Prime Minister’s vision of Digital India, which aims to transform lives of people through mobile connectivity. The company's initiatives like Grahak Shiksha Kendra, Internet on Wheels, WebWise and Ghoomketu spread awareness and educate consumers on mobile services and benefits of Internet.
