A state official announced on Monday that Himachal Pradesh's rural and urban districts would both have full 5G services by the end of 2024.

State IT Secretary Abhishek Jain said that this will guarantee improved internet capabilities and bridge the digital divide for the majority of people.

According to a PTI report, he was presiding over a state level meeting on modalities for using government infrastructure/street furniture in establishing telecom structure to make 5G services functional in state by 2024, which was held on Monday.

In several places of India, 5G services are currently rapidly reaching people. To expedite the roll-out of 5G, country's leading telecommunications service providers, Jio and Airtel are each using an own approach. Jio has stated that it will provide 5G services to all of India by 2023 end, whereas Airtel stated that its 5G services will cover the entire nation by March 2024.

According to Jain, the government of Himachal Pradesh is also working hard to develop the telecom industry and is doing everything it can to roll out 5G services at the earliest. He further stressed that in order for this to be accomplished within a certain time frame, both sides including the government and service providers must work in coordination and with a clear strategy.

Another issue he emphasized on was that it has been observed that all service providers continue to dig up property to erect poles and fibre which inconveniences the public and pollutes the environment. In light of this, he stressed the importance of devising a system for implementing 5G that will cause the least amount of disruption to the general people and environment.

He further recommended that all service providers coordinate and do the installation work all at once to avoid having to repeatedly dig up the property.
