Arianespace is all set to launch India’s communication satellite GSAT-24, THE Indian Space Research Organization announced in a mission status report on Tuesday. The satellite will be launched by Arianespace from Kourou in French Guiana on June 22.
“Newspace India Limited (NSIL), a government of India company under Department of Space (DoS), is undertaking GSAT-24 satellite mission as its 1st Demand Driven mission post space reform,” Bengaluru-headquatered space agency said.
GSAT-24 is a 4180kg 24-Ku band communications satellite that provides pan-India coverage for DTH applications. According to an ISRO statement, NSIL has leased the whole satellite capacity to Tata Play. On May 2, the PSR (Pre-Shipment Review) Committee approved the GSAT-24 satellite after it had completed assembly, integration, and environmental testing.
On May 18, a C-17 Globemaster airplane delivered the satellite and its associated equipment to Kourou, French Guiana. The satellite is currently undergoing health/performance checks at clean room facilities in French Guiana as a part of the launch campaign, according to the statement.
