BANGALORE: Akamai Technologies, content delivery network (CDN) services provider, has announced the opening of a new Security Operations Center (SOC) in Bangalore, India.
By year end, Bangalore will be the second largest Akamai SOC in terms of human resources outside of the United States.
“It’s clear that many Asian countries continue to be a major source of cyber attacks,” said Sidharth Malik, Managing Director and Vice President, India, Akamai Technologies.
“Locating SOC resources close to the point of attack origin provides Akamai with a significant mitigation advantage. This is a proven strategy that we embrace not only in Asia, but around the world.”
In its Q1 2015 'State of the Internet Security Report', Akamai noted on-going cyber threats from Asian countries. Over 22 percent of the recorded DDoS attack source traffic originated from China during Q1 2015, making it the top source country for attack traffic during the quarter. When compared to the previous quarter, China saw a 66 percent increase in attack source IPs compared with the previous quarter’s top country.
"This latest expansion enhances Akamai’s ‘follow the sun’ strategy for customer service and support,” said Malik. “Now we have even more security professionals available to help mitigate attacks and keep customer sites and applications available and performing optimally.”
