India's fourth largest telecom operator BSNL has just announced a data plan. The plan is so ridiculously cheap it is hard to believe that it is even real.
Details of the BSNL Masterstroke
Think of the best thing you can buy at under Rs. 50. There aren't many, yes. If someone were to compile a list of best things to buy under Rs. 50, this plan will be somewhere around the top. In just 47 rupees, prepaid users can avail unlimited data with 14GB of high speed data, unlimited calls. The plan also gets you 100 SMS if you wish to use them. The plan is also valid while on roaming and in MTNL circles and the plan will be valid for 28 days. This recharge plan is a statement of intent from the public sector teleco.
It is to note that BSNL is India's fourth largest telecom operator. While that may sound impressive - 110 million subscribers is no slouch - the third largest teleco, Vodafone Idea, has a subscriber base more than double what the Government-owned operator can boast of. BSNL's struggles with quality have been well documented. Yet, this is a greatly positive sign from their end as they need to be appealing and an attractive option for the average customer to pick them.
BSNL has realized that they still can be great on value and with this prepaid recharge plan they might be on to something.
