NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet has cleared the way for mega auction of spectrum in which airwaves worth Rs 5.66 lakh crore will be put for sale in country.

"Cabinet has cleared the way for mega auction of spectrum.More than 2300 MHz spectrum is available for auction across 7 bands," said Frank Noronha Principal Spokesperson, Government of India & Director General of Press Information Bureau.

"The 7 bands are : 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands," said Noronha on his official twitter account.

" The availability of such a large quantity of spectrum will give a fillip for DigitalIndia," it added.

"It will allow telecom operators to purchase spectrum at par with international holding values & end spectrum shortage," he added.

Government of India expects to raise at least Rs 64,000 crore from the auction of about 2300 Mhz of spectrum and Rs 98,995 crore from various levies and services in the telecom sector," according to the report.
