On Wednesday, Hughes Communications India Private Ltd. announced that the Bank of India has selected it to provide satellite connectivity to 1,800 bank branches across the country. This project becomes one of the most significant ones handled by the satcom company.
Hughes to Connect Bank of India's Branches
The statement read that the satcom company will deliver connectivity to several banks too, along with rural BoI branches. These include Aryavart Bank, Madhya Pradesh Gramin Bank (MPGB) and Vidharbha Konkan Gramin Bank (VKGB).
Shivaji Chatterjee, Senior VP & Head of Enterprise Business, HCIPL, said, "we are proud of our association with Bank of India for this vital satellite-based connectivity solution, ensuring network availability and a very good experience across branches".
He further added, "Bank of India is one of our oldest customers and a staunch believer in the value of satellite connectivity in delivering services to their customers and ensuring continuous and reliable operations."
Hughes said that it will power the network with its Jupiter system, including routers, gateways and management. The company will also use the capacity on GSAT 11 and NSS12 satellites to deliver connectivity. Further, it added that its Jupiter system has become the most widely deployed ground network platform in the world.
Notably, HCIPL already serves many BFSI customers in India; its portfolio includes 30 nationalized and private banks, along with over 30,000 branches and 40,000 ATMs. Hughes also has been looking at India's satcom space, especially in the retail sector; it will also look to compete with the likes of Starlink and OneWeb.
