NEW DELHI: Cybercrimes are on the rise, with 50% increase over the past five years and about 9,622 incident of cyberbullying were reported in the year 2014.
Out of this, maximum incidents of cybercrimes were reported from Maharashtra about 19% followed by Uttar Pradesh (18.1%) and Karnataka (10.6%), PK Malhotra , Secretary, Ministry of Law & Justice, said during the international conference on Cyberlaw, cybersecurity and cybercrime in New Delhi.
The conference looked at the emerging legal, policy and regulatory issues pertaining to cyberspace and cybercrimes. It also identified the areas in cyber crimes where cyberlaws needs to be further evolved so as to meet with the expectations and needs of the relevant stakeholders of the digital and mobile ecosystem.
The conference also discussed the creation of an international network of cybercrimes and cyberlegal professional which could then be an important voice in the further developments of cyberlaw, cybercrime and cybersecurity across the world.
It witnessed around 100 speakers around the globe, including Justice TS Thakur, Chief Justice of India Designate, Margaria Popova, Vice-President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Preeta, Maloor, Strategy and Policy Advisor in the Corporate Strategy Division, International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
