Nokia to Deploy 5G SA Core for DISH in Public Cloud with AWS

Nokia on Tuesday said it will deploy its 5G SA Core for DISH on AWS. This move will make it the first 5G deployment in the public cloud in the industry.

Nokia on Tuesday said it will deploy its 5G SA Core for DISH on AWS. This move will make it the first 5G deployment in the public cloud in the industry to support DISH’s OpenRAN-based 5G network.

5G on AWS, by Nokia, for DISH

The telecom gear maker said that it is providing its voice core and cloud packet core. Along with that, it is giving DISH its subscriber data management, device management, and NetGuard network security. Nokia has also bundled in its end-to-end security services for DISH. This will allow the latter to deliver new 5G-era services. Also this will enabling DISH to manage its network with near zero-touch automation.

Nokia said this deployment will allow DISH to support new 5G use cases across cloud stacks at end customer premises.

Marc Rouanne, Chief Network Officer, DISH, said, "running the Nokia 5G SA core on AWS will optimize our network operations to launch new software and services rapidly and efficiently, enabling the integration of countless innovative use cases for customers".

Notably, DISH has previously partnered with both the companies. Also, it recently announced 5G network partnership with Dell.

Raghav Sahgal, President, Cloud and Network Services, Nokia, said, “we are pleased to break new ground in the telecom industry with AWS and DISH leveraging our cloud-native core to bring innovative 5G capabilities to enterprises and consumers".

Sahgal added that the collaboration puts AWS and DISH in the front of the industry. He said that the companies will deliver key 5G benefits over the gear maker's, "proven distributed core architecture".
