NTT India on Monday announced that they will invest up to $2 billion dollars in data centers, networks and solar projects. In particular, $1.5 billion will go in data centers to double India's data capacity by 2024. Notably, NTT also announced a $2-billion capex to drive the data centers, networks and solar projects in the country. All of these plans will carry out in the next three years.
NTT India's Data Center Plan
Interestingly, NTT is the largest operator in this segment with over 1.5 million sq. ft. across 10 data centers operating in four cities already. Furthermore, Sanghi noted that this will more than double - to 2.5 million sq. ft. - over the next three years. With that, NTT India plan to enter 4 more cities to establish data centers.
The company looks to establish six more data centers. From the six, three parks are already under construction in Mhape and Airoli (both Navi Mumbai) and Chandivali in Mumbai; and one each will be come up in Chennai, Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. Sanghi told in a weekend interaction that this expansion will see up investing almost $1.5 billion of the committed $2 billion capex over the next three years, and will nearly double NTT India's capacity to over 2.5 million sq. ft. from 1.5 million sq. ft.
Notably, the domestic data center market is growing 20% annually, with similar growth projections throughout the next three years. Right now, India is the fifth largest data center market in the world. China leads the market here and India only has a fifth of China's total data center capacity.
