Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 778G 5G Mobile Platform

During the annual Qualcomm 5G Summit, the chipmaker launched its latest 7-series mobile platform, the Snapdragon 778G 5G.

During the annual Qualcomm 5G Summit, Qualcomm announced the new Snapdragon 778G 5G Mobile Platform. This platform will support upcoming smartphones from Honor, iQOO, Motorola, OPPO, Realme, and Xiaomi.

Kedar Kondap, VP, Product Management, Qualcomm, said, "Snapdragon 778G was developed to address the growing demand by global OEMs for more platform options in the high-tier”.

He further added, “Snapdragon 778G brings many of the latest premium technologies and features into the high-tier to help make next generation experiences more broadly accessible.”

The Snapdragon 778G brings new features in performance, camera, AI, connectivity and gaming.

Performance

Qualcomm uses the advanced 6 nm process technology to manufacture the Snapdragon 778G 5G. This means that the chipset allows incredible performance and power efficiency.

The Qualcomm Kryo 670 generates up to 40% uplift in overall CPU performance. Along with this, the Adreno 642L GPU delivers up to 40% faster graphics rendering, compared to the previous generation.

Camera

Snapdragon 778G features a Triple ISP to capture three photos or videos simultaneously, including wide, ultra-wide, and zoom. This feature allows users to record from three lenses at once. Basically, Triple ISP will allow users to capture the best aspects of each and automatically merge them into one video.

A phone powered by this chipsent can also shoot video in 4K HDR10+, capturing over a billion shades of color. Also, Snapdragon 778G supports Staggered HDR image sensors. These sensors lets a person capture computational HDR video.

AI

Snapdragon 778G features the latest 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor. This allows the processor to deliver up to 12 TOPs and 2X performance with an improvement in performance per Watt.

The platform also brings AI-based noise suppression and better AI-based camera improvements to connections, video and phone calls.

Qualcomm Sensing Hub integrates low-power AI processor for contextual awareness use cases for the platform, increasing efficiency.

Gaming

For the gamers, this platform delivers select Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. These features include Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and Qualcomm Game Quick Touch.

VRS allows developers to specify and group the pixels being shaded within different game scenes to help reduce the GPU workload. This provides greater power savings while still maintaining the highest visual fidelity.

On the other hand, Qualcomm Game Quick Touch offers up to 20% faster input response for touch latency. This enables a pro gamer-level experience.

Connectivity

Snapdragon 778G includes the integrated Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System. This system helps deliver mmWave and sub-6 5G capabilities to more users around the world.

Furthermore, it also features the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Connectivity System. This means that the Snapdragon 778G supports multi-gigabit class Wi-Fi 6 speeds (up to 2.9 Gbps). Along with this, it also supports 4k QAM and access to 160 MHz channels in both 5GHz and 6GHz.

Additionally, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology suite offers verification that Qualcomm's hallmark audio features. It also applies system-level optimizations to enable a redefined listening experience.

Lastly, with Bluetooth 5.2 support, Wi-Fi 6/6E and 5G, Snapdragon 778G is capable of delivering low-latency gaming, sharing, video calls, and more.

The industry received the Snapdragon 778G with much enthusiasm and positivity.

Xiaomi

OPPO

iQOO

"The new Snapdragon 778G 5G achieves breakthrough innovations in camera and AI," said Zeng Kunpeng, general manager, iQOO Product Line.

He further said, "based on the cutting-edge features of Snapdragon 778G, we look forward to bringing users richer and more interesting mobile camera and gaming experiences."

Notably, devices based on the Snapdragon 778G will debut in the second quarter of 2021.
