RailTel, a Mini Ratna PSU of Ministry of Railways, launched broadband offerings to provide OTT (Over-The-Top) services to customers of its popular retail broadband service “Railwire” – which is the retail broadband service of RailTel. Currently, RailWire has more than 4.67 lakh FTTH subscribers across India.
RailWire SATRANG" is a comprehensive broadband package that redefines new-age digital experience on streaming OTT entertainment content. Offered as a Value Added Service (VAS) for RailWire subscribers, the service was launched by Shri Anand Kumar Singh Director (Finance) RailTel.
“What Railtel unveiled is just the beginning; we will continue to enrich our offerings,” said Manoj Tandon, Group General Manager Marketing at Railtel. “With full spectrum of entertainment canvas, Railwire SATRANG is set to redefine multichannel, multiregional, experience of entertainment,” Manoj Tandon, added.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Anand Kumar said, “RailTel is one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers in the country. The Railwire broadband service is quite affordable and is available in rural areas where more than 48% of Railtel subscribers are located.”
Under this new feature, a total of 13 OTT services will be offered to Railwire subscribers bundled with truly unlimited broadband plans “RailWire SATRANG” canvas. More than 150 TV channels are on offer in this package - including Amazon Prime, Disney+Hotstar, Zee5 , Sony Liv, ErosNow, SunNext, AHA Telugu , Alt Balaji, Epicon, MX Player, VOOT, Hungama Movies & TV shows and Hungama Music Pro. The bundled offer keeps in mind the fact that Internet users and their usage multiplied in the last two years (pandemic), with a clear shift in screen size (from TVs to laptops and mobiles), number of hours of viewing time, choice of content and location (home, work, travel etc).
More than eight out of every 10 televisions bought by Indians last year were Smart TVs. Smart TV sales is growing by more than 50% over the last three years. Entertainment content is now targeted at specific audiences.
Along with a strong network of over 61000 route kilometres of Optical fibre, RailTel has two tier III data centers. RailTel is working towards creating a knowledge society and has been selected for implementation of various mission-mode projects for the Government of India in the telecom field. RailTel is also working with Indian Railways to transform railway stations into digital hubs by providing public Wi- Fi across the country.
