At the Reliance AGM 2021, the company's 44th Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani has announced the Google-backed JioPhone Next. It is a truly 4G android smartphone. Users can buy the phone from September 10 onwards.
Ambani Announces JioPhone Next at Reliance AGM 2021
The much-anticipated Reliance AGM 2021 is now underway across Jio platforms such as JioMeet, and the MyJio app, and on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Users can also interact with the WhatsApp Chatbot that RIL announced yesterday, to obtain meeting links, and important documentation on Reliance AGM 2021.
Since RIL released its annual reports for FY 2020-21, speculation has been rife around key announcements such as Reliance Jio's 5G Network, JioPhone 3, JioBook, the cheap laptop, and the Google-backed Jio 5G Phone. The speculation has only intensified after the company announced the AGM.
And today, at the AGM, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman, RIL, announced the rumoured JioPhone Next. The entry-level smartphone comes powered with an extremely-optimized android version, along with the suite of Jio Apps.
According to Google, the phone will support the Play Store as well. That means that the users can access the Play Store and run all the apps available on the marketplace. Pichai also said that JioPhone Next users will get support for the latest Android releases and security updates. He added, " user experience will keep getting better with new features and customizations, all delivered over-the-air".
Sundar Pichai from Google joined the meeting virtually. He said, "next steps in this vision start with a new, affordable, Jio smartphone, created with Google".
He also said that the phone has been built with India in mind. Pichai hoped that the phone will open opportunities for "millions of new users who will experience the internet for first time".
Pichai also said that the phone will have a "great" camera. He also announced that Jio and Google Cloud will collaborate for 5G development.
The phone will go on sale from September 10, 2021 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. Jio will release the details for the same at a later date.
Most likely, users can pre-book the phone over Jio platforms like Reliance Digital and JioMart. Right now, neither Google nor Jio have said anything about the specs, or the price.
