In its annual report, Reliance Industries Limited said that Reliance Jio is pushing for the rollout of digital platforms. The report also said that the telco has indigenously developed next generation 5G stack as well.
Reliance Jio Develops 5G Stack in India
The report added that the telco has also built enough network capacity to support 300 million additional mobile broadband subscribers, over 50 million fiber homes and 50 million MSMEs. Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani said that the telco, along with Qualcomm, already tested 5G solutions in India. Together, the companies achieved throughput of 1 Gbps on Reliance Jio's 5G Solution. The report also said that this underlines Jio's 5G credentials. It also signifies the entry of Jio and India in the gigabit 5G NR product portfolio, the report added.
"The 5G RAN Platform has crossed the 1 Gbps milestone on the Jio 5G core network and smartphones," the report said.
The report also noted that Reliance Jio and Qualcomm, along with JPL's wholly owned subsidiary Radisys Corporation, have developed an open and interoperable interface-compliant architecture-based 5G solution with a virtualized RAN (vRAN). With this solution, the telco hopes to rollout 5G network and services in India faster than its competitors.
Notably, Reliance Jio has infused over US$50 billion to create the largest digital and connectivity ecosystem in India. The report said, "in growing its ecosystem to make India the world's premier digital society and economy".
The report also outlined the key takeaways of FY 2020-21. First, it said that Jio Platforms (JPL) completed fundraising of Rs 1,52,056 crore across 13 global marquee investors. Other key points included testing of indigenously developed end-to-end Jio 5G Radio and Core Network Solution. The telco hopes to rollout a a self-sufficient and cost-effective 5G network in the near future.
The report said that over the next few years, Jio would focus on creating a "robust" wireline network across the country. "Jio is geared up to touch the lives of over a billion Indians through its digital offerings," it said.
