Tata Sons is reviving its telecom entity Tata Teleservices in a new company. This new company will be called Tata Tele Business Services (TTBS) and will cater to small and medium enterprises.
New Look Tata Teleservices
TTBS will also support Tata Electronics and its SuperApp digital platform. Tata Sons aims to bring Tata Electronics' various customer services together on one platform. In that regard, TTBS has launched Smartflo. Basically, it is a cloud-hosted communication platform that targets SMEs having a hybrid work culture. The platform provides both mobile and desktop access.
Incidentally, Tata Communications caters primarily to large enterprises. Also, India has around 63 million small and medium enterprises. This market is the primary focus of the new-look company.
Supreme Court delivered a huge blow to Tata Teleservices by cancelling its licenses. Later, the company's partner, NTT Docomo withdrew after the two got into a legal battle. Eventually, the tariff war which ensued after Reliance Jio’s entry in 2016 led the Tatas to transfer the consumer mobile business of Tata Teleservices without any debt transfer.
Now, Tata Sons look to tap the SME sector by rebranding the company. Top officials aware of the matter said that Tata Sons cleaned up the financial mess in the entity and will resume operations on a clean slate.
How will TTBS Operate?
TTBS will offer services like intelligent call routing, call monitoring and a dashboard to check the number of inbound and outbound calls. TTBS aims segments which deal with large number of customers, such as banking, insurance, manufacturing, e-commerce, healthcare, fintech and SMEs.
Tata Sons has put together a top team of officials. These include officials from Tata Teleservices, Tata Sons and Tata Communications. Harjit Singh Chauhan, President, Enterprise Business, Tata Teleservices, will head the revamped entity. TTBS is also also looking at the 5G space, where it will offer services to other telecom operators.
