As per the latest data released by TRAI, Reliance Jio and Vodafone topped 4G download and upload speeds, respectively.
Reliance Jio finished first in the 4G download rate, with 20.1 Mbps. On the flipside, Vodafone had the highest upload speed at 6.7 Mbps in April.
Reliance Jio and Vodafone Fastest Networks
Interestingly, even though Vodafone and Idea Cellular have merged as Vodafone Idea, TRAI still releases separate network speed data of both the entities.
In download speeds, Reliance Jio registered the fastest download speeds in April. It had a download speed of 20.1 Mbps. TRAI reported that Vodafone had a download speed of 7 Mbps. During the same time, Idea and Bharti Airtel had download speeds of 5.8 Mbps and 5 Mbps, respectively.
Surprisingly, Jio's download speed was almost thrice as fast as the second best, Vodafone. Also, Jio outdid its bitter rival Airtel by more than 4 times, which is all the more surprising. It shows the network strength Reliance has gained over the past couple of years.
In upload speeds, Vodafone came out on top, with upload speed of 6.7 Mbps. Idea, Jio and Airtel made the top 4 with upload speeds of 6.1 Mbps, 4.2 Mbps and 3.9 Mbps, respectively. In upload speeds, the competition was close enough, but here as well, Jio outdid Airtel.
TRAI calculates the average speed based on the data it collects and with its MySpeed app real-time across the country. The regulator reports the data speeds on a monthly basis, alongside its monthly telecom data report.
