UC Browser captures 50% India market share in mobile browsing

NEW DELHI: UCWeb Inc., of the Alibaba Group, has touched a new milestone with its flagship mobile browser UC Browser, registering over 50% market share as of September 2015,  according to the StatCounter in India. The company made this announcement at IAMAI Affiliate Summit 2015 in New Delhi.

UC claims that its UCWeb has witnessed a steep rise in market share, rising 15% in the last 12 months. As of today, 1 of every 2 mobile page viewed in India is accessed via UC Browser, says the company. The giant leap is result of UCWeb’s commitment towards India market where its iconic cloud-enabled browsing technology, ability to compress page to provide faster page loading & data cost saving and localized content has helped UC Browser to become the preferred mobile browser in India. UC Browser has also reached 16.82% worldwide market share as of September 2015, becoming the second most popular mobile browser after Chrome. UC Browser hit 100 million daily active users worldwide in December 2014, becoming one of the few apps enjoying such user engagement around the globe.

The achievement is aided by the browser’s new launches like the UC Open Platform 2.0, an ecosystem to help Indian mobile internet players to acquire users and monetize traffic. UC Open Platform was announced last year to give a boost to the Indian mobile Internet ecosystem by helping mobile developers, content providers, publishers and advertisers to access across-the-board services for brand promotion, user/traffic acquisition, actionable user metric analysis, IP protection and monetization.
