Vodafone India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Marten Pieters will be resigning from his post effective April 1, 2015, and the company’s current chief operating officer Sunil Sood will take over the reins from him.
However, Pieters will continue to be on the Board of Vodafone India as a non-executive member.
"It has been a pleasure and a privilege to lead Vodafone India and I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their passion and commitment in support of our goals over the last six years. I am delighted to hand over to Sunil; we have worked closely together throughout my time with Vodafone and I could not wish for a better successor," Pieters said in a statement.
He is known for playing an active role in the Indian telecom industry. He is serving as the head of the country’s second-largest telecom company since February 2009. and has voiced his concerns against high spectrum prices, tax regulations and other issues concerning the Indian telecom industry.
In 2014, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).
Under his regime, Vodafone India' revenues jumped two-fold and it added more than 100 million customers.
Sood joined Vodafone India's erstwhile Hutch, in 2000 and has worked in the company's operations in Gujarat, Kolkata and Chennai.
