NEW DELHI: Communication solutions provider Huawei has joined hands with Hong Kong Telecom (HKT) to launch the world’s first 10Gbps Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) access by using Huawei XG-PON (also known as 10G-GPON) solution, which is targeted to be available to all existing GPON customers in the third quarter of 2015.
Through the solution, users in Hong Kong can enjoy unparalleled broadband experience in the era of 10Gbps broadband access service.
“HKT is introducing its 10G FTTH service for specified customers in the pilot phase of the service. To be commercially launched as the world’s first 10Gbps access by Huawei and HKT, the 10G-GPON solution performs 10 times faster than current offering in terms of speed,” the company said.
In addition to being ideal for high quality multimedia contents, high speed Internet connection will facilitate instant sharing or information storage through cloud-based networks.
Users will be able to upload and download thousands of photos and videos from the Internet as fast as accessing a local hard disk. For instance, it would only take about 20 seconds to download a typical HD feature movie with a file size of 25GB using 10Gbps broadband.
Users will also be able to select their preferred 4K camera viewing angle, and the resolution available through the transmission will be four times sharper than conventional HD.
Prior to the mass launch later this year, Huawei and HKT have completed the preparation of 10Gbps access based on Huawei’s new OLT MA5800 and its unique XG-PON gateway Optical Network Terminal (ONT) for a trial launch for selective FTTH customers in the second quarter of 2015.
In the pilot launch, users can experience the 10Gbps Internet download speed, 1Gbps Wi-Fi speed and 5Gbps USB3.0 speed which dramatically enhance customer experience.
